Bank Account Freeze
If you are sued for a debt and lose, there are several things that can occur. These are called Post Judgment Remedies.
Wage Garnishment
A judgment creditor, a plaintiff that wins the lawsuit, can petition the Court to allow garnishment of your wages, up to 15% after necessary deductions (taxes, etc.). There are ways to reduce, or stop this.
Bank Account Attachment
A judgment creditor has the right to freeze your bank account and seize money equal to the amount of the judgment. There are ways to fight or block this.
Lien on Home
A judgment creditor may place a lien on your home. While a judgment creditor may have the right to foreclose, this does not have often. A lien cannot be fought but there are ways to work with a creditor.
